We Exist Because the Data Has Always Left Us Out

WOC Table began in Finland — one of the most progressive countries in the world for gender equality, yet a place where the experiences of women of colour remain largely invisible in the data. Our founder Asha, a British Indian woman living in Finland, started by hosting small intimate events for women of colour in her local community. What she heard in those rooms made one thing clear: the stories women of colour carry every day — about their careers, their workplaces, their sense of belonging, and the invisible weight of navigating a world not built for them — were not being recorded anywhere. They were not informing policy. They were not influencing company decisions. They were simply disappearing.

Those local gatherings revealed something that stretched far beyond Finland. Women from very different backgrounds and circumstances were describing versions of the same experience — navigating workplaces, communities, and systems that had not been designed with them in mind. Some had moved from other countries. Others had lived in the same place their entire lives. But the feeling was often the same: invisible in the data, underrepresented in decisions, and carrying a weight that the world around them rarely acknowledged or understood.

WOC Table was built to change that. Not by speaking on behalf of women of colour — but by giving them a platform to speak in a way that the world's institutions are forced to listen to. Data.

What started as conversations in a room in Finland is now a growing global movement. Built entirely by the women it serves.
